Film Blog

My film is about how social networking and/or technology affects teenage relationships.  This film consists of a young couple being interviewed.  The young couple we are interviewing will be Giovanni and Lisselotte.  In the interview, they open up and give us their thesis on our topic.  Does social networking actually affect teenage relationships? We also have a plan to juxtapose this couple with persons of an older generation.  D'vante's parents Erick and Jenese Belisle, who are still together, still married, and has 3 kids, interviewing them to get the idea of how they dated without this much availability to technology and the internet.  Was it easier without all the need for this technology and internet?  Or was it harder to make contact just because they didn't have as much communication as we do now?

The emerging story is how upsetting it actually is to date, or even heavily rely on technology to communicate with your partner.  In our film, we would like to reveal the problem with using social networking so much, we want to expose the frequent problems that always seem to emerge or come out of using a social networking sites.  Heading into recording and producing this film, we want to show that it is bad to use social networking sites too often.  We also chose this topic because it seemed as though it is an issue that can be related with very easily.  A teen could easily give a story about how a social networking site caused them some harm in anyway.

The research I will need to do for this film is gathering statistics on how many teens use the internet and how many people have some kind of social networking account.  I will also make and print out surveys to give to random people to evaluate if the New Design population has had some trouble with dealing with relationships, or even friendships regarding a social network site/account.

iMovie Blog

In the workshop working with Imovie, Kwan gave us a tutorial on how to use the application. He showed use that we could use visual effects and sound effects that could help us enhance our film. He showed us that we could even upload music to our film. Knowing all of this will push the quality of our film even more, making it so much better. Kwan also showed us a quick lesson on editing. On how we are able to cut clips to make it shorter and more sensible. Then will come in handy when I want to cut unnecessary parts out of the film.

Cinematography Blog

In the workshop about cinematography, Ariana showed us a movie about how people in Brazil use music to express them-selfs and how they are able to make their own equipment, like speakers, usually from scratch. The movie thankfully had english subtitles for the reason that the movie had a foreign dialect. It was a great film because it shows how they use music to escape the slums and poverty that they live in. It makes me feel good that where ever you how, how ever you may live you are still able to do the thing you are most passionate about. The film also had some astounding B-roll Shots.

Ariana helped me understand the shots that were happening as the film went on. The B-Roll shots that I liked the most where the static shot of the people making the items that they need. In the movie, the director got a shot of the clouds passing, and the sun setting. This shows how much time has passed and judging from how fast the clouds moved, it would be safe to say that a good amount of hours passed by. What Ariana also explained to us is the different kind of B-Rolls. There are the close up shots, where it's pretty self explanatory, a Bird's Eye View is being in the sky, or high above, and filming whats below. A Ground shot s setting the camera on the ground and filming upward.

I am glad to have this knowledge of these B-rolls that Ariana gave to use. Now I can incorporate this into my film. I envision of getting a bird's eye view of a person randomly chatting on their phone, or get a close up of someone that's really planted on the computer who is very intently on Facebook. The possibilities are great.
